Abstract(s)
familiar, quer a nível do contexto escolar.
The present investigation is developed in the area of the studies that deal with the problem of the promotion of reading, analysing, in particular, the role the school library can have among children and teenagers. We dedicated the first part of this study to the theoretical framework of the research. It deals with the technological paradigm and the information society, which have inevitably conducted us to a new educational paradigm and determined a change in the practices at school. In this context, the need to give students the skills the information literacy requires. Therefore, reading became a big challenge not only to school but also the school library. Thus, we have developed our reflection on the challenges that the school library and its co-ordinator, as reading mediator, have to face. In the second part of this study we describe and analyse the intervention project in the area of reading, that was carried out by the school library and involved 7th grade students. Some of these students had great reading difficulties and this motivated us to try to understand the mechanisms of the initial reading learning process. This is the reason why we include in this study some theoretical information related to this subject. The motivation and the development of reading for plesaure through ludic activities are pertinent in difficult reading contexts, not only in the family but also at school. The analysis of the results of the initial questionnaire proved this evidence. The exploratory study was based on the development of the project “Discover reading for pleasure”, that included reading activities on a regular basis and other ones. The analysis of the data collected by different instruments, allowed us to think about the elements that are involved in reading. It made also it clear that the school library can be an important mobilizing power if we want to join efforts among teachers and the family to develop a systematic and continuous work in the promotion of reading for pleasure and, consequently, in developing the reading skills. This combined effort contributed to a change of the students' attitude towards the reading aims, with very positive implications in the academic success of some of them and gave them the possibility to develop a more consistent and broad academic work in the future.
