Abstract(s)
In the national educational context, external evaluation of schools and self-evaluation are mandatory, regulated by Law nº 31/2002, of December 20, which meets the vast majority of international educational contexts, both being considered pillars in the construction of a high-quality school. The present investigation, within the scope of the relationship between the schools’ external evaluation and self-evaluation, aims to analyse changes that were generated in the self-evaluation processes, in a group of schools in the Algarve, after receiving the reports prepared by the General Inspection of Education and Science regarding to the 1st and 2nd cycles of schools’ external evaluation. Having as a starting point the review of the literature on: evaluation and evaluation of schools; self-assessment in schools and external assessment of schools, the research carried out is of a qualitative nature, with a case study being carried out. Data were collected based on document analysis and semi-structured interviews. The results obtained point towards a superficial knowledge, on the part of the participants, about the information contained in the external evaluation reports and the self-evaluation processes of the group under study. In this sense, although some alterations were generated in the grouping of schools studied, these were incipient and the self-assessment process has been carried out intermittently.
