Abstract(s)
A depressão encontra-se associada às perturbações do humor de duração variáveis, que é em geral acompanhada por sintomas físicos e mentais, interferindo na forma de sentir, pensar e agir. Este estudo tem como objetivo identificar as representações sociais de crianças acerca da depressão através de uma abordagem transcultural. Participaram desse estudo crianças inseridas no contexto escolar braslileiro e português. Para tanto, utilizou-se os seguintes instrumentos: Children Depression Inventory (CDI) e Associação Livre de Palavras. Os resultados apontam uma prevalência da depressão em crianças brasileiras (11%) e portuguesas (14%). De forma consensual, a depressão emerge como sinônimo de tristeza, doença e choro. A pessoa deprimida é representada como angustiada, que chora, cabisbaixo, desanimada, sem amigo, com auto- imagem negativa (depreciativa), e que chora. Espera-se contribuir na compreensão da etiologia da depressão em contextos culturais diferenciados, bem como, na elaboração de estratégias preventivas para uma melhor qualidade de vida dessa população.
The depression is associated with humor disturbs of varied duration, that is in general followed by physical and mental symptoms, interfering in the ways of feeling, thinking and acting. This study has as objective identify the social representations of children about depression through a transcultural approach. Have participated of this study children inserted on the brazilian and portuguese school context. For that, the following instruments were utilizated: Children Depression Inventory (CDI) and Associação Livre de Palavras. The results show a freqüency of depression on brazilian children (11%) and portuguese (14%). In a consensus way, the depression emerges as a synonym for sadness, illness and cry. The depressed person is represented as anxious, which cries, bored, without friend, with a negative auto-image (depressed). To contribute on the understanding of depression’s ethiology in differents cultural contexts is expected, as well, on the elaboration of preventive strategies for a better life quality of this population.
