Abstract(s)
política, económica, social e cultural do país.
irremediavelmente.
In Guinea-Bissau, the Portuguese colonial presence and several social groups that inhabited this country for several centuries, left immense cultural heritage as an expression of its cultural tradition and identity whose values marked the country's political, economic, social and cultural history. The challenges of conservation and preservation of collections and documentary collections arising from historical legacies (oral and written testimonies) left by civilizations prior to Portuguese colonization and collections inherited from the colonial regime, passing through documents of various supports, linked to the history of national liberation struggles narrated by their actors and witnesses, even documents produced in the post-independence period, are the focus of this study. The objective of the investigation is to examine and diagnose the state of documentary heritage in Guinea-Bissau and generate information that can support actions that contribute to its adequate conservation and preservation. The research allowed identifying the conditions of the documentary infrastructures (deposits of archives, repositories, museums and libraries), environment, furniture and the vulnerability of the collections. To carry out this study, a methodology based on bibliographic research was used to survey and analyze the data, visits were made to the sites and informal interviews with employees of the documentary units and, finally, an analysis of the data was carried out to substantiate concepts on the topic. The results obtained reveal the deficient conditions in which historical documents are currently found, mainly as a result of multiple vicissitudes resulting from the successive social and political crises that the country has faced, requiring urgent decisions in order that the still existing heritage does not disappear irrevocably.
