| dc.description.abstract | Até o presente foram recolhidos, em 9 estações pré-históricas portuguesas, 24 dentes de tubarão fósseis, pertencentes a diversas espécies, oriundos de depósitos marinhos de diversos andares do Miocénico, tanto da região de Lisboa, como da orla algarvia. A distribuição geográfica dos mesmos evidencia estreita relação com os referidos afloramentos, indicando que se trata de exemplares colhidos nas proximidades ou, quando muito, a apenas de algumas dezenas de km de distância. A morfologia dos exemplares é muito distinta, reflectindo usos diferenciados. Os grandes e belos exemplares ocorrem aparentemente sem transformações humanas, pelo que valiam por si mesmos, possuindo significado próprio, presentemente desconhecido, embora não pudessem, à época, ser associados aos animais a que pertenciam, por estes terem desaparecido há vários milhões de anos e deste modo não fazerem parte do imaginário colectivo destas populações; mas o facto de integrarem oferendas funerárias demonstra a importância simbólica que detinham. Já os pequenos exemplares evidenciam, tal qual o verificado em outras regiões e épocas da Península Ibérica, utilização na indumentária, incluindo pendentes ou elementos de colar. Foram também as formas exóticas, as cores variadas e o aspecto atraente que motivou a sua utilização, podendo esta revestir igualmente significado simbólico, tendo presente o sincretismo cognitivo das populações primitivas que os utilizaram, no território português, desde o Neolítico Final ao final do Calcolítico, excepcionalmente até o Bronze Pleno. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | So far, 24 fossil shark teeth have been collected in 9 Portuguese archaeological sites, belonging to different species, from marine deposits of different levels of the Miocene, both in the Lisbon region and in the Algarve coast. The geographic distribution of the 9 archaeological sites where they were collected shows a close relationship between their location and the aforementioned outcrops, indicating that these are specimens collected in the vicinity or, at most, just a few dozen km away. The morphology of the specimens is very different, indicating different species for different uses. The large and beautiful specimens occur apparently without human transformations, for what they were worth in themselves, having their own meaning, currently unknown, although they could not, at the time, be associated with the animals to which they belonged, as they disappeared several million years ago; but the fact that they were part of funeral offerings demonstrates the symbolic importance they held. The small pieces show evidence, as seen in other regions and times of the Iberian Peninsula, of their use in clothing, including pendants or necklace elements. It was also the exotic shapes, the varied colors and the attractive aspect that motivated their use, which may also have a symbolic meaning, bearing in mind the cognitive syncretism of the primitive populations that used them, in Portuguese territory, from the Late Neolithic to the end of the Chalcolithic, exceptionally until the Full Bronze Age. | pt_PT |
