Abstract(s)
Leadership is one of the thematic that most attention has received by researchers in Social Sciences. Since the emergence of the words leader and leadership, there are numerous works carried out, perspective, approaches and levels of analysis covered, as well as the theoretical and methodological guidelines followed. In this context, the present study sought to verify the representations of the sample’s subjects on the leadership practices practiced by its responsible; to identify leadership styles that prevail in the Automobile Inspection Centers studied; to relate the independent variables with the representations of the sample’s subjects on the leadership practices conducted by its Director, in order to identify possible statistically significant differences. This issue was framed in Transformacional, Transacional and Laissez-Faire leadership styles. A quantitative methodology was followed, whose sample is coincident with the population (n= 111), since the questionnaires were applied to all the employees of the south zone (n= 49): Évora, Castro Verde, Lisboa, Beja, Alcochete; of the middle zone (n= 20): Óbidos, Caldas da Rainha and Rio Maior; and the north zone (n= 42): Tondela, Estarreja, Maia and Alfena. Due to the data collected, we conclude that the kind of leadership followed by the diretors/ leaders, according to the subjects of the sample, was the Transformational followed by the Transactional. The results obtained in the inferential analysis were corroborated with those that report to the diretors/ leaders leadership factors that include the following variables: effectiveness, extra effort and satisfaction, as well as three motivation styles: Success, Affiliation and Power.
