Abstract(s)
respetivos professores devem maximizar as potencialidades destes indivíduos a nível físico,
intelectual, emocional, criativo cultural e social.
This dissertation aims to understand the social reality of people with disabilities, through the analysis of the main difficulties / objectives felt by them in their day-to-day lives, namely, the lack of support in carrying out basic tasks, difference in opportunities and offers on access to the labor market. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities have limitations in mental capacities, where areas related to learning, reasoning, interpersonal communication and selfmanagement stand out. In order to understand if there are difficulties/obstacles in the execution of daily tasks in the academic and working world of these individuals, a methodology based on direct observation and semi-structured interviews was adopted with a sample of participants who have disabilities (Down's syndrome and dwarfism). The main results show that in academic terms, the school and its teachers must maximize the potential of these individuals at the physical, intellectual, emotional, creative, cultural and social levels. With regard to the professional integration of people with disabilities, it was found that not all respondents benefited from them. In addition, they refer that they were not subject to discrimination during the recruitment and reception process in their respective companies. Finally, it was observed that according to the perspective of the employer that measures to support the hiring of people with disabilities should be more appropriate to reality.
