O presente trabalho foi realizado no âmbito do Mestrado em Estudos Portugueses Multidisciplinares da Universidade Aberta e incide sobre a intervenção do Corpo
Expedicionário Português na Flandres, entre 1917 e 1918. Tendo como objetivo
compreender de que modo o ambiente físico e psicológico influenciou a capacidade de
resistência e o moral dos portugueses nesse teatro de guerra, foi executado um
levantamento da informação impressa em obras memorialísticas publicadas no início do
século XX. Foram, ainda, estudadas outras obras relacionáveis e investigados diversos
fundos arquivísticos institucionais. Caracterizado o momento histórico, foram
identificadas causas e efeitos que influenciaram os comportamentos em combate, a
quebra da força de comando e a experiência vivida em cativeiro.
This project, developed during the Masters Degree in Estudos Portugueses Multidisciplinares, in Universidade Aberta, focuses on the intervention of the Portuguese Expeditionary Corps in Flanders, between 1917 and 1918. With the aim to understand how the environment influenced the physical and psychological resilience of the Portuguese in this theater of war, we made a survey of the existing memoirs published in the early twentieth century, identified other works relatable and also investigated several institutional archive resources. Characterized the historical moment, we identified causes and effects that influence the behaviors in combat, the breakdown in the chain of command and the experience lived in captivity.
