Neste artigo apresentam-se resultados de um projecto de investigação sobre a articipação associativa de descendentes de imigrantes de origem africana lusófona em Portugal. A partir da recolha de dez histórias de vida, desenvolveu-se um olhar retrospectivo às trajectórias de jovens adultos com funções dirigentes em associações juvenis ou de imigrantes e descendentes. Procurou-se identificar os factores que potenciam a participação associativa e, por outro lado,
analisar o papel do associativismo na aquisição de capital social e no impulso de trajectórias de mobilidade social.
This article presents the results of a research project on participation in associations among the descendants of immigrants from Portuguese-speaking African countries in Portugal. The empirical raw material was gathered on the basis of ten life stories in order to retrospectively analyse the associative experiences of young adults assuming leadership positions in youth, immigrant or immigrant descendant associations. The research aims were: to identify the catalysts of associative participation; and to understand the role that participation in associations plays in the acquisition of social capital and in the promotion of social mobility.
