Abstract(s)
Cultural diversity is a phenomenon that is the result of human mobility. Indeed, since prehistory the human species migrates in search of resources to ensure its survival. These migratory movements that have spread all over the world, enable men to contact and influence other cultures, and are influenced by them, and have created multicultural societies. Recently, the phenomenon of globalization has provided the potentiation of this cultural dynamism, by eliminating borders between countries, and by providing the coexistence of the most diverse ethnic, cultural and racial groups within the same physical space and developing new forms of social relations. However, these different cultural dynamics do not always enable the integration process in culturally different communities and often generate conflicts and communication problems that result in racial discrimination and social exclusion of minorities. This study intends to study the changes that cultural pluralism brought with it and how European multiculturalism has altered the structures of traditional Portuguese society. The purpose of this reflection is to contribute to the general debate on the need to implement adequate mobility policies, especially for health, work and education protection.
