Abstract(s)
A história é mais do que um processo. Ela é uma construção coletiva, fruto das interações humanas e destes com os eventos que os cercam, bem como do tempo histórico em que estes ocorrem. As relações entre a Bahia e a Costa da Mina não foram a exceção. Estes laços atlânticos, em particular no século XVIII, legaram ao Brasil elementos importantes de sua cultura e religiosidade. Foram muitos os pensadores que, ao longo desse processo aportaram suas visões e representações sobre os ditos laços. Porém, as vozes de Vicente Ferreira Pires, Francisco Alves de Souza e Manuel Ribeiro Rocha constituíram marcos analíticos de relevo para uma melhor compreensão do fenômeno em estudo, visto que apresentaram perspectivas complementares, ainda que de densidade variada, nas áreas da escravidão, tráfico negreiro e laços culturais. O ponto essencial foi o debate atemporal entre as três vozes que, escrevendo sobre os respectivos temas em
diferentes períodos dos setecentos, adquiriu um caráter atemporal, visto que os três pensadores nunca se leram, mas graças a História puderam travar tal debate.
History is more than a process. It is a collective construction, the result of human interactions and these with the events that surround them, as well as the historical time in which they occur. Relations between Bahia and Costa da Mina were no exception. These Atlantic ties, particularly in the 18th century, bequeathed important elements of its culture and religiosity to Brazil. There were many thinkers who, throughout this process, contributed their visions and representations about the said ties. However, the voices of Vicente Ferreira Pires, Francisco Alves de Souza and Manuel Ribeiro Rocha constituted relevant analytical landmarks for a better understanding of the phenomenon under study, since they presented complementary perspectives, although of varied density, in the areas of slavery, slave trade and cultural ties. The essential point was the timeless debate between the three voices that, writing on the respective subjects in different periods of the 1700s, acquired a timeless character, since the three thinkers never read each other, but thanks to History they were able to have such a debate.
