Abstract(s)
In African countries, in particular, in Mozambique, non-formal education at the community level may be a way of combating poverty, gender inequalities, lack of schooling and illiteracy itself. It is also a way to strengthen the identity of the community and its organizational, social and cultural structures, that is, to act at the level of sustainable development of the community. The present study involved an intervention for sustainable development, from a community intervention perspective, in order to identify and test a non-formal education model, in three regions of Mozambique, through the involvement of local actors, based on their own resources. and in social, historical and cultural aspects. The research project presents the form of a multiple case study, or more specifically, is developed in three different communities, located in the provinces of Maputo, Inhambane and Zambézia, and included 20 women participating in each community. The investigation plan comprised four phases: diagnosis, intervention, evaluation and monitoring, and final evaluation, the results being obtained by conducting interviews, before and after training, and by the participant observation of the researcher. In general, it was found that the behaviors of the women who participated in the training were very positive, highlighting the motivation, the integration of women in the group and the spirit of mutual help. As for the impact of training, the most significant indicators were: women's willingness to be literate; happiness for participating in the program; the creation of personal income; the completion of the sale of its products; and participation in the payment of children's school expenses. The qualification of the participating women through the training program gave rise to new realities, procedures and practices of local management, in a format of sustainable development, that is, respecting the community, its history, culture, experience and social structure.
