Abstract(s)
The present study, which has as its theoretical basis Reception Aesthetics and the theory of Aesthetic Effect, aims to understand how literary texts impact readers and what this can cause in their lives. The aesthetics of reception emerged in 1967, with Hans Robert Jauss at the University of Constance in Germany and the Theory of the Aesthetic Effect in appeared in 1970 with Wolfgang Iser, also in Germany. Both critical approaches emphasize the readers' experience. The objective of this dissertation is to take a new look at the habit of reading, investigate how the message of a text is constructed in the reader and help readers understand texts, observing possible interpretations, demystifying literary texts in order to revitalize the pleasure of reading. For this purpose, impressions, understandings, interpretations, sensations, feelings and opinions of students were collected in activities in the portuguese language classroom, on reading and studying a selection of short stories and chronicles by Clarice Linspector. We seek to understand to what extend we can have different interpretations of the same text, how it impacts readers differently, how this happens and from what. The results obtained were analysed, and a reflection was made on the differences and similarities of the interpretations collected, as well as on the characteristics of the readers who produced them, such as their life experiences, ability to understand and use of the portuguese language in order to understand the process of reading, understanding and interpreting texts to improve their use at school and win over readers.
