| dc.description.abstract | This document is intended to support students in the initial stages of research, particularly in courses dedicated to the planning of master's dissertations and doctoral theses. It proposes that identifying the state of the art in a problem (and its associated techniques) be understood as a dual process: technical and personal. On the technical level, it involves understanding the current point of knowledge (what advances have been made, which techniques are in use, and how to apply them); on the personal level, the focus is on exploring alternatives and leading the student-researcher to reflect on their priorities, ambitions, and constraints. The goal is to empower them to make informed and conscious choices about the contours of the problem and the technical-scientific goals to pursue.
