Abstract(s)
Hoje o mundo estĂĄ impregnado de tecnologias. Elas inscreveram-se nas nossas rotinas diĂĄrias moldando a forma como percecionamos o mundo e no prĂłprio cĂłdigo genĂ©tico do homem do sĂ©culo XXI. As potencialidades que lhes estĂŁo subjacentes sĂŁo mĂșltiplas e inumerĂĄveis. E, se outros mĂ©ritos nĂŁo tivessem, por mais tecnofĂłbica que seja a forma como as olhamos, reconhecemos-lhes o mĂ©rito de permitirem a aproximação e comunicação em tempo real entre indivĂduos ainda que situados nos lugares mais recĂŽnditos do planeta. Neste cenĂĄrio, estranho seria pois que as tecnologias nĂŁo estivessem presentes na investigação em ciĂȘncias sociais. Com efeito, nos dias de hoje, a investigação em geral e a investigação qualitativa em particular, nĂŁo podem manter-se alheadas do recurso Ă s tecnologias da informação e da comunicação, quer porque sĂŁo parte constituinte do comportamento coletivo do homem de hoje, quer porque a comunicação eletrĂłnica se impĂŽs como uma ferramenta que os investigadores podem usar para recolher dados, para lhes dar um sentido e para os representar.
O facto de as tecnologias de informação e comunicação, por um lado, poderem ser utilizadas como meio de recolha de dados e, por outro lado, possibilitarem a superação das dificuldades de reuniĂŁo entre indivĂduos geograficamente afastados, permitiu a concretização do focus group realizado em cenĂĄrio virtual proporcionado pela plataforma Blackboard Collaborate, de que se fala neste artigo.
The world is currently emerged in technologies. They are part of our daily routines, shaping the way we perceive the world and the very genetic code of the 21st century man. The potentials behind technologies are multiple and countless. And, even if they would have no other merits, and as technophobic as we may be, at least we all acknowledge their ability to allow proximity and real-time communication between individuals in the most recondite places of our planet. Under this scenario, it would be rather strange for technologies not to be present in social sciences research. In fact, in our days, research, in general, and, particularly, qualitative research, cannot restrain from using information and communication technologies, both because they are an integrant part of the collective behaviour of the man of today, and also because electronic communication imposed itself as a tool that researchers may use to collect data, to give them meaning and to represent them. The fact that information and communication technologies may be used to collect data, on the one hand, and make possible to overcome difficulties in gathering people who are geographically parted, on the other hand, enabled the organisation of the focus group conducted in virtual scenario provided by the Blackboard Collaborate platform, which is mentioned in this article.
