Usando os conceitos de reminiscência e memória aborda-se o modo como John dos Passos escreveu a sua The Portugal story: Three Centuries of Exploration and Discoveries, partindo do propósito enunciado por José Augusto Ramos de que a escrita executa como que uma “anatomia cultural”. É tendo em atenção essa mesma anatomia, que neste artigo para além de brevemente se contextualizar o conjunto da produção de Dos Passos, se analisa o tecer de uma escrita da História, onde a memória do sujeito participa como um instrumento de desocultação de um domínio imperial ao longo dos séculos.
Using the concepts of reminiscence and memory, we approach the way John dos Passos wrote his The Portugal story: Three Centuries of exploration and Discoveries, based on the aim stated by José Augusto Ramos that writing performs a kind of “cultural anatomy”. It is by keeping that same anatomy in mind that this article, besides briefly contextualising the whole of Dos Passos’ set of works, analyses the process of writing History, where the individual’s memory participates as an unveiling device of an imperial domain throughout the centuries.
