Com o presente trabalho, procuramos enquadrar a obra de Edgar Allan Poe no campo dos estudos interartes à luz do motivo do Duplo, destacando a desconstrução da personalidade das suas personagens literárias, atendendo em particular à fragmentação do eu da personagem Auguste Dupin, nos seus Tales of Ratiocination, atentando de que forma a (des)construção desta personagem inspirou o género literário no séc. XIX e XX. Procuramos ainda refletir sobre a relação literatura-cinema, nomeadamente sobre a problemática da tradução e da fidelidade cinematográfica, analisando o processo de adaptação a partir do conto The Murders in the Rue Morgue (1841) de E. A. Poe, com especial enfoque na forma como a duplicidade existente nos contos foi traduzida para a versão cinematográfica.
With this work, we aim to discuss Edgar Allan Poe's oeuvre within the field of interart studies in light of the motif of the Double, emphasizing the deconstruction of the personality of his literary characters, particularly focusing on the fragmentation of the self in the character Auguste Dupin, in his Tales of Ratiocination. We examine how the (de)construction of this character inspired the literary genre in the 19th and 20th centuries. We also seek to reflect on the literature-cinema relationship, regarding the issues of cinematic translation and fidelity, analyzing the adaptation process of Poe's 1841 short story The Murders in the Rue Morgue, observing how the duplicity present in the short stories was translated into the film version.
