Abstract(s)
This article posits the construction of community bonds through participatory artistic practice, supported by a case-study in which a curator develops a community-rooted artistic project over three conceptual axes: territory, participation and culture. Departing from the Duchampian boîte-en-valise, as a selfcured portable collection of artefacts, the author posits a reinterpretation, supported by mobile devices and digital urban art. Through this practice, inter-generational knowledge is transmitted, memories and traditions are preserved; in short, the culture of places and communities is transformed in hovering digital layers anchored to their roots through geo-references and markers. It is in the urban frontier areas, in the strongholds that resist the waves of gentrification, between an almost rural periphery and the suburbs, that existing and resisting memories can be preserved, stimulated and interpreted, bringing them to the era of modern digital communication.
