A relação entre natureza e saúde tem ganho cada vez mais relevância nas investigações contemporâneas em ciências da saúde e sociais, humanidades, psicologia evolutiva e ambiental e arquitetura paisagista.
Este estudo, desenvolvido no Hospital-Escola Fernando Pessoa, analisou as preferências, funcionalidades e expetativas de pacientes, familiares, profissionais de saúde e gestores relativamente à criação de um jardim terapêutico. Integrado na rede Compor Mundos: Humanidades, Bem-estar e Saúde, e envolvendo uma equipa de diferentes universidades portuguesas, o projeto partiu de uma abordagem interdisciplinar que cruzou psicologia,
sociologia, geografia e arquitetura paisagista. Através de métodos qualitativos e quantitativos, procurou-se compreender como um espaço verde pode conjugar cuidado, bem-estar e simbolismo num ambiente hospitalar.
O jardim terapêutico é aqui entendido como um espaço material e simbólico, capaz de mediar experiências de vulnerabilidade e promover regulação emocional, oferecendo um complemento à lógica biomédica.
The relationship between nature and health has gained increasing relevance in contemporary research across health and social sciences, humanities, evolutionary and environmental psychology, and landscape architecture. This study, conducted at Fernando Pessoa Teaching Hospital, explored the preferences, functions, and expectations of patients, families, healthcare professionals, and administrators regarding the design of a therapeutic garden. Integrated into the Composing Worlds. Humanities, Health and Well-Being research network, and involving teams from different Portuguese universities, the project adopted an interdisciplinary approach combining psychology, sociology, geography, and landscape architecture. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, the research aimed to understand how green spaces are imagined and valued within hospital settings. The therapeutic garden is conceived as a material and symbolic space that supports emotional regulation and mediates experiences of vulnerability and care, offering a complement to biomedical logic.
