Abstract(s)
A presente investigação procura contextualizar a
The Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian art collection includes a small set of works of art known as Objects of Vertu. This research is going to contextualise the set of Objects of Vertu within the organisational system of the Gulbenkian collection as well as define this diversified set of small works of art whose production can be traced to the Classical Antiquity period and continued until the end of the nineteenth century. Despite being in exhibition at the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum since 1965, firstly displayed at Palácio Pombal, in Oeiras, and later on at the facility created in Lisbon, only a small part of these objects has been seen by the visitors, leaving a variety of objects hidden from the public eye. These objects can be defined by their finesse and luxury materials as well as their creation and origin, amongst others. The aim of this study is to shine a light on these works of art as part of the whole of the Gulbenkian Collection.
