Abstract(s)
e as Ordenanças.
instituições políticas e administrativas do município.
The dissertation we present here focus on the thematic of the exercise of power by Beja local elites and its conditioning by the manorial/central power, in power centralization logic. This desideratum is pursued through the analysis of the electoral processes embracing the last half of the 17th century until the end of the 18th century. We also pretend to analyse synchronically the presence and the action of the local elites on three of the main autarchic and municipal stages: the Câmara (municipality), the Misericórdia and the Ordenanças. The result of this analysis was the identification of the individuals who featured the power of the camera and the municipal one in the second half of the 18th century (1749-1786) and their inclusion in family networks, which allowed building a sketch of the social reality of Beja local elites during this period, complemented both upstream and downstream, in an attempt of apprehending the movements of the families who share the power, along the history, as a true oligarchy. This analysis allowed us to identify the strategies of power used by the main families in the city of Beja, “head” of the House and State of the Infantado, which go from endogamy weddings practices to the systematic occupation of the places and spaces in the political and municipal administrative institutions, assuming themselves as the true politician elites. The dissertation also analyses the action of the manorial officials and from the central power amongst the city of Beja as well as in the interior of the city hall.
