Abstract(s)
A Educação Sexual (ES), integrada na Educação para a Saúde, tem vindo a ocupar um lugar de destaque na Escola, revelando-se essencial a criação de condições, que incluam a formação do(a)s agentes educativo(a)s, para a ES se traduzir numa realidade em meio escolar. É basilar que a Escola opere ao nível da aquisição de conhecimentos, na área dos afectos e sentimentos e efectue um treino de competências fundamentais ao crescimento pessoal e social sadio do(a)s aluno(a)s. Considerando o manual escolar como o recurso didáctico mais utilizado em meio escolar e que, na generalidade, o(a)s docentes o encaram
como um apoio essencial para a sua prática lectiva, a investigação que se apresenta pretendeu indagar que contributo oferece o manual escolar para o desenvolvimento da Educação Sexual em contexto de sala de aula? Foi efectuado um estudo exploratório que englobou a avaliação de todos os manuais de Estudo do Meio do 3º ano de escolaridade disponíveis para adopção pelas escolas, N=17, relativamente ao tema da Reprodução Humana, com base numa grelha de análise, construída e validada para tal.
Posteriormente, foi conduzido um estudo de caso centrado em duas turmas do 3º ano de escolaridade, averiguando-se a receptividade de professore(a)s e aluno(a)s na promoção da Educação Sexual através dos manuais escolares,
optando-se por uma triangulação metodológica que envolveu a observação e o inquérito por questionário e por entrevista. Foi possível, centrado nos resultados do estudo, contribuir para a construção de um manual escolar
direccionado para o 1º Ciclo. A condução de ambos os estudos permitiu concluir que os manuais escolares não revelavam qualquer preocupação na
promoção da Educação Sexual. Demonstravam-se redutores na abordagem aos conceitos da Reprodução Humana, negligenciavam as dimensões da
sexualidade e descuravam o desenvolvimento de capacidades individuais no(a)aluno(a). Concluiu-se que a Educação Sexual formal depende da vontade e sensibilidade do(a) professor(a).
Sexual Education (SE), a component of Health Education, has been occupying a prominent place in School. The training of educational agents is a necessary condition for SE to be effectively implemented in School. It is vital that School act at the level of knowledge acquisition, affections and feelings, and provide training of basic skills for the personal and social development of students in a healthy perspective. As the textbook is the most teaching resource used in schools, and generally the teachers see it as an essential support tool for their teaching, this research has sought to investigate what is the textbook contribution for the development of SE within the classroom context. An exploratory study was carried out which involved all textbooks available in the market for the 3rd year of schooling (Primary School Level) about Human Reproduction within Environmental Studies curricular area (N=17). The textbook assessment was based on a checklist, created and validated specifically for this study. A further case study was conducted focusing on two 3rd grade classes to assess the willingness of teachers and students in promoting SE using textbooks. The methodology involved classroom observations, questionnaires and interviews and a triangulation of data was done. Based on the study findings, it was possible to create activities for a 1st Cycle textbook. After conducting the two studies, it was concluded that the textbooks had no concerns towards the promotion of SE. They were restrictive in their approach to the concepts of Human Reproduction, neglected dimensions of sexuality and overlooked the development of students’ individual capacities. It was concluded that formal Sexual Education depends on the teacher’s willingness and sensibility.
