Abstract(s)

Começamos por caracterizar, muito resumidamente, a Europa de hoje, seguindo-se a identificação dos desafios e ameaças que colocam em causa o seu devir. Este está diretamente relacionado com a competitividade e o desenvolvimento, num mundo crescentemente global e marcado pela conflitualidade entre blocos com diferentes valores e objetivos. Terminaremos com as necessárias mensagens de e para o futuro, com a noção de que “a Europa só poderá continuar a construir-se como um ato de vontade e inteligência”, consciente da importância da segurança e defesa para a autonomia estratégica no novo sistema político internacional.

We begin by ery briefly characterizing today’s Europe, followed by identifying the challenges and threats that call its future into question. This is directly related to competitiveness and development, in an increasingly global world marked by conflict between blocks with different values and objectives. We will end with the necessary messages from and for the future, with the notion that “Europe can only continue to build itself as an act of will and intelligence”, aware of the importance of security and defense for strategic autonomy in the new international political system.
