- Digital re-materialisation: towards a post-digital perspective in contemporary art research and practicePublication . Marcos, AdéritoIn the last decade and a half, we have witnessed the emergence of aesthetics instantiated through digital media as a form of expression of artistic and cultural contemporaneity, supported and integral to the current global digital technological revolution. This aesthetic has been evolving to adopt the emergence of new materiality or re-materialisation in the practices of digital creation in art and culture, where tangible physical materials assume an equal role to the digital while expanding and repositioning it in an aesthetic that takes on its characteristics that have been termed post-digital. The post-digital perspective assumes the digital as omnipresent, a liquid medium because it flows and submerges everything and everyone; transparent because ubiquitous and (to a large extent) invisible; also empowering because it underlies and is immanent through the very physicality of objects and materials. The conference addressed a contextualising review of digital media art, as digital art and media, concepts and foundations, artistic practices, processes of creation and cultural intervention, firmly centred on the technological artefact and the cycles of action-contemplation, to present a reflection on the emergence of digital re-materialisation practices that summons the tangibility of materials, and in these, enhances the construction of a new digital aesthetic based on hybridity and physicality of the artefacts.
- The influence of law enforcement officers’ sex in their attitude toward intimate partner violence situationsPublication . Vieira, Cristina Pereira; Coelho, Rui; Costa, Paulo Manuel; Nunes, Catarina S.This article analyzes the impact that the sex of law enforcement officers might have on the way they intervene in Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) situations, and if that is determined by prejudices related to traditional gender roles within intimate relationships. A questionnaire was applied to 1,872 law enforcement officers of GNR (Republican National Guard), Portugal. The results show differences in beliefs and perceptions and subsequent decisions to intervene, which reveal that women and men hold different views about gender roles and IPV. The data warns against the influence that prejudices might have on the decision to act in IPV situations.
- Can we escape the metaverse?: Should we?Publication . Carvalho, Fausto de; Morgado, LeonelIn view of the strong market presence and leverage of major corporations involved in this topic, the most straightforward answer to the questions above is “No”. Thus, along this article we reflect about the concept of “metaverse”, what parts of it exist today, and what is foreseen that makes this concept a much discussed game changer.

- Patient Zer0: creating online generative art during the COVID-19 PandemicPublication . Veiga, Pedro Alves daPatient Zer0 is an interactive generative artwork, designed around the poem “In Memory of Anyone Unknown to Me” by Elizabeth Jennings and created during the first confinements imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. While it has been showcased in several online exhibitions, this article details and analyses, for the first time, the artwork's algorithmic approach, as well as its aesthetics, the different media components, and the artist's intentions behind their inclusion and combination. In line with Springgay's, Irwin's, and Kind's a/r/tography, a recent creative research method is presented here, a/r/cography, which is complemented by a phenomenological dimension, as the author experienced the events from a physical, intellectual, and emotional perspective, in isolation, while at home in Portugal. The whole process was documented in a digital journal, which not only supported the underlying research but also documented the artwork variants and evolution. Patient Zer0 was entirely coded in Processing.js.
