Correia, Joana Duarte; Albuquerque, RosanaIn the twenty-first century, with globalization in all its aspects - financial flows worldwide, regulatory institutions of world trade, network communication or international migration – we witnessed the outbreak of a world increasingly articulated worldwide. In this "network society", the digital media have transformed the social life, creating new forms of action and interaction that have revolutionized and brought a new glow to the phenomenon of immigrant transnationalism. It is therefore necessary to investigate the role of digital technologies for the development of networks established between transmigrants and what are the consequences in the identity level for these "technological nomads". The main objective of this research is to find answers to a key question: what is the role of digital media in identity processes, transnational belonging and integration of Brazilian immigrants living in the small town of Grândola? To this end, through a case study, semi-structured interviews were conducted to ten people belonging to the Brazilian community, witnesses of different places and incorporation modes in the economy and Portuguese and grandolense society. The results show that the digital media, especially the Internet, allow immigrants to find and reinvent their country of origin and create ties in the host society, offer opportunities to interact with their peers and with local communities, and consolidate transnational public spheres, while networks of excellence to / link and contact between migrants individuals together, societies of origin and host societies. Thus, it will be of utmost importance to continue to study the true implications of new technologies on the lives of immigrant communities.
