Abstract(s)
A DQA estabelece o quadro de ação comunitária para a água e tem como principal objetivo que todas as massas de água europeias atinjam o Bom estado (ecológico e químico). O estado ecológico resulta da combinação de elementos biológicos, suportados por elementos físico-químicos e hidromorfológicos. O estado químico é avaliado pelo cumprimento de normas de qualidade por substâncias prioritárias. A monitorização
desempenha um papel fundamental no processo de planeamento e gestão das bacias hidrográficas, uma vez que as massas de água que não atingem os objetivos ambientais são sujeitas a um programa de medidas de recuperação. Neste estudo, o estuário do Mira foi monitorizado entre 2018 e 2020 com o objetivo de caracterizar este sistema em termos químicos, físico-químicos e biológicos. Aos dados recolhidos foram aplicadas as metodologias da DQA para avaliação dos estuários. Os resultados mostram que a maioria
dos parâmetros monitorizados atingem o bom estado, mas a zona de montante do estuário apresenta problemas nos nutrientes, pesticidas, metais e macroinvertebrados bentónicos, refletindo as pressões sobre a bacia hidrográfica. Apesar do estatuto de proteção conferido pelo PNSACV, o estuário do Mira encontra-se sujeito a constrangimentos ambientais que põem em causa os objetivos da DQA. O plano de medidas em vigor não é suficiente para assegurar a proteção dos valores naturais que importa preservar, pelo que são necessárias medidas de gestão e recuperação dos ecossistemas que assegurem o cumprimento dos
objetivos da diretiva.
The WFD establishes the framework for community action in the field of water policy and aims to achieve good ecological and chemical status for all water bodies in Europe. Ecological status is assessed based on biological quality elements, supported by physicalchemical and hydromorphological quality elements. Chemical status assessment is based on compliance with legally binding quality standards for selected chemical pollutants (priority substances). Since water bodies that do not meet the WFD objectives are subject to a program of measures to recover ecosystems, monitoring performs a fundamental role in river basin planning and management. In this study, the Mira estuary was monitored between 2018 and 2020 in chemical, physical-chemical and biological terms, in accordance with the WFD. Methodologies for assessing estuarine aquatic ecosystems were applied to the data collected in fieldwork. Results show that most parameters and quality elements indicate good status, however, upstream water bodies present problems in terms of nutrients, pesticides, metals, and benthic invertebrates, reflecting human pressure in the watershed. Despite benefiting from the natural park protection status, the Mira estuary is subjected to environmental constraints that menace compliance with the WFD objectives. The current plan of measures is not sufficient to ensure the protection of the natural values that need to be preserved, thus management and recovery measures for ecosystems are necessary to ensure compliance with WFD objectives.
