O fórum central: catalizador da participação do aluno em turmas virtuais no ensino a distancia online

| dc.description.abstract | No ensino a distancia online a participação do aluno torna-se inviável em espaços virtuais com um grande número de participantes pois a intervenção individual tende rapidamente a diluir-se no elevado volume de interações geradas. Este é o motivo principal subjacente à criação de turmas virtuais com um máximo de 60 alunos, especialmente se se considerar os cursos de primeiro ciclo do ensino superior. Aguarda-se assim que ao reduzir a dimensão da turma virtual se implemente uma maior proximidade online e se aumente a participação individual do estudante. No entanto, nas áreas das ciências da computação os níveis de participação do aluno são em regra bastante reduzidos, sendo que a intervenção fica geralmente monopolizada por um reduzido núcleo de alunos com maior domínio da área ou mais desinibidos. Propõe-se uma nova abordagem baseada na exploração de um espaço comum e fórum central partilhado por diversas turmas que permita catalisar toda a interação, mesmo que residual, de cada turma, maximizando o seu impacto final junto dos estudantes. Neste artigo descreve-se um caso de estudo e respetivos resultados experimentais recolhidos ao longo de dois anos letivos que permitiram aferir um efetivo incremento da participação dos estudantes no processo de ensino-aprendizagem e respetivo aproveitamento. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | In online distance learning (ODL), student participation becomes unfeasible in virtual spaces with a large number of participants, because individual intervention tends to dilute very rapidly within the high volume of interactions generated. This is the main reason behind the creation of virtual classrooms with a maximum of 60 students, especially when it is considered 1st cycle courses in higher education. So, it is expected that, by reducing the size of the virtual classroom, a closer online presence is implemented and student individual participation increased. The authors challenge the validity of this strategy in areas like computer science where the levels of student participation are in general very low. The intervention is usually monopolized by a small core of students with a greater mastery of the area or less inhibited, resulting in a reduced level of student participation. The authors propose a new approach based on the exploration of a space, such as a central forum, shared by several classrooms, that serves as a catalyst of every classroom interaction, even if residual, and so maximizing its final impact on the students. Even if the interaction is very high in the central forum, the same may be complemented by a wiki, where the larger interventions can be located. This paper describes a case study of the application of a central forum and the experimental results collected over two academic years in context of the learning unit “Computer Architectures”. | pt_PT |
