Ao longo dos tempos, o equilíbrio homem – natureza foi sucessivamente alterado por uma atitude e comportamento de domínio do homem sobre o meio. A evidência crescente dos problemas ambientais, dos anos sessenta do século XX, levaram ao emergir da Educação Ambiental, e esta passou a ser considerada por organizações e especialistas como um campo de ação pedagógica adquirindo relevância e vigência internacionais. Alguns trabalhos têm analisado a aplicação da Educação Ambiental aos Resíduos Urbanos. Estes Resíduos são os que provêm de habitações ou são semelhantes aos resíduos derivados de habitações, têm origem num número de produtores elevado e disperso (sobretudo agregados familiares) o que coloca desafios à sua gestão. A questão das famílias na gestão de Resíduos Urbanos é uma temática inovadora e pouco abordada na literatura daí a pertinência desta investigação. Iremos trabalhar com famílias num território em que a capitação de Resíduos Urbanos é superior à média nacional, falamos do concelho de Reguengos de Monsaraz, e centrar-nos-emos na aldeia da Cumeada. O presente trabalho corresponde a um projeto piloto que verifica atitudes, afere conhecimentos e comportamento das famílias face aos Resíduos Urbanos, desenvolve, testa, implementa o “Projeto de Educação Ambiental: Menos Lixo é mais Ambiente”, e averigua de que forma o Projeto pode contribuir para a construção de uma comunidade mais atenta e ativa na problemática dos Resíduos Urbanos. Ao longo da investigação aplicamos atributos pertencentes ao método qualitativo e outros atributos do método quantitativo, visto a conjugação de métodos ser o mais viável para a melhor compreensão da realidade em análise. Após a implementação e avaliação do Projeto de Educação Ambiental, registaram-se famílias com conhecimentos mais aprofundados, pensamentos mais harmoniosos e práticas mais sustentáveis face à temática dos Resíduos.
Throughout the ages, the man-nature balance was continuously changed by an attitude and behavior of man's dominion over the environment. The growing evidence of the environmental problems of the 1960s led to the emergence of Environmental Education, and this came to be considered by organizations and specialists as a field of pedagogical action acquiring international relevance and validity. Some essays have analyzed the application of Environmental Education to Urban Waste. These residues are those that come from dwellings or are similar to residues derived from dwellings and have their origin in a large and dispersed number of producers (mainly households), which poses challenges to their management. The issue of families in the management of Urban Waste is an innovative theme and little discussed in the literature hence the relevance of this research. We will work with families in a territory where the Capitation of Urban Waste is higher than the national average, we’re referring to the municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz, and we will focus on the village of Cumeada. The present work is a pilot project that in addition to verifying attitudes, assessing families' knowledge and behavior towards Urban Waste, develops, tests and implements the "Environmental Education Project: Less Trash is More Environment" and investigates how the Project can contribute to the construction of a more attentive and active community in the issue of Urban Waste. Throughout the investigation we will cover attributes belonging to the qualitative method and other attributes of the quantitative method, once the combination of methods is the most feasible for a better understanding of the reality under analysis. After the implementation and evaluation of the Environmental Education Project, families with deeper knowledge, more harmonious thoughts and more sustainable practices were registered in relation to the Waste theme.
