Este artigo resulta de um estudo em que se pretendeu entender a relação entre condições socioeconómicas, saúde e envelhecimento ativo. Identificaram-se as atividades relacionadas com o envelhecimento ativo, a relação com a saúde, as estratégias utilizadas e os seus determinantes. Optámos por uma metodologia qualitativa baseada em entrevistas semiestruturadas e os dados recolhidos foram tratados através de uma análise de conteúdo temática. Analisámos dois grupos socioeconómicos de idosos cabo-verdianos, num total de 22 entrevistados, de ambos os sexos. O grupo socioeconómico interfere diretamente nas questões do envelhecimento ativo. Evidencia-se que na categoria social mais elevada a condição
socioeconómica determina o envelhecimento ativo mais do que as questões de saúde. No grupo de condições socioeconómicas mais baixas, a condição socioeconómica atua a par das condições de saúde e ambas determinam as atividades que os idosos desenvolvem.
This article results from a study that seeks to understand the relationship between socio-economic conditions, health and active ageing. We identified the activities related to active ageing in relation to health, the strategies used in active ageing and their determinants. We chose a qualitative methodology based on semi--structured interviews and the data was processed through a thematic content analysis. Two socioeconomic groups of elderly Cape Verdean, involving 22 interviewees of both sexes, were analyzed. We found out that the socio-economic condition interferes directly in the affairs of active aging. In the group with a higher social position, socioeconomic condition determines the active aging rather than health issues. In the group with a lower social position, the socio-economic conditions acts in parallel with health conditions and both determine the activities that older people develop.
