O movimento de conversão, entendido como um processo inacabado porque sujeito às vicissitudes erodentes do tempo, visa a construção do homem novo transfigurado em Cristo e orienta-se para a ação, ou seja, para a mudança das condições de vida da sociedade nas suas múltiplas dimensões que requerem aperfeiçoamento, conversão e transfiguração para dar lugar a um mundo melhor. A espiritualidade da ação de base inaciana transporta um ideal utópico que teve expressões no pensamento e ação de figuras históricas que traduziram este ideal adequando-o à linguagem do seu tempo e do seu contexto vital. O nosso artigo prepõe-se analisar de que modo este ideário de conversão e ação global se refletiu na vida e obra de duas figuras da Companhia de Jesus em Portugal: Padre António Vieira (1608-1697) e Padre Manuel Antunes (1918-1985).Ignatian spirituality develops with the inner goal of achieving the integral conversion of the human being and with the broader ho-rizon of transforming all humanity in the light of Christological values. The movement of con-version, understood as an unfinished process because it is subject to the eroding vicissitudes of time, aims at the construction of the new hu-man being transfigured in Christ and is oriented toward action—that is, toward changing the liv-ing conditions of society in its multiple dimen-sions, which require improvement, conversion, and transfiguration in order to make way for a better world. The spirituality of action ground-ed in the Ignatian tradition carries a utopian ideal that found expression in the thought and action of historical figures who translated this ideal by adapting it to the language of their own time and life context.
