[S.l.]: [s.n.]. 2024. 110 p.http://hdl.handle.net/10400.2/16308A presente dissertação pretende compreender qual o papel da mulher e do homem na sociedade, segundo as perspetivas de um grupo de jovens adultos de São Tomé e Príncipe, que se encontra a estudar num centro de formação profissional, em Portugal. Partindo desta questão orientadora, definiram-se os seguintes objetivos específicos de investigação: Identificar os papéis sociais que as e os jovens atribuem a mulheres e homens; Entender as razões dos comportamentos autoritários, por parte dos jovens do sexo masculino, relativamente às colegas; Perceber a subserviência das referidas jovens, face a esses comportamentos de autoritarismo dos seus colegas; Compreender quais as questões, do ponto de vista cultural, social e/ou outras que contribuem para tais comportamentos e perceções (e em que medida); Conhecer quais as expetativas das/dos jovens, face ao futuro. A investigação permitiu-nos concluir que as representações de género estão ainda muito enraizadas, continuando as mulheres a serem muito submissas, restringindo-se essencialmente à esfera privada, enquanto os homens dominam o espaço público. Embora a maioria dos jovens considere que devam ser iguais os papéis da mulher e do homem na sociedade, ao mesmo tempo estão também conscientes do peso das tradições culturais no seu país, considerando-as, inclusive, obstáculos à igualdade de género. Assim, apesar de se verificar uma evolução nesse sentido, há ainda um longo caminho a percorrer! Esperamos com esta pesquisa contribuir para a urgente reflexão acerca das sociedades contemporâneas e desigualdades que se perpetuam, sobretudo relativamente à igualdade de género, promovendo o conhecimento, para uma realidade efetivamente justa, equitativa e inclusiva.This dissertation aims to understand the role of women and men in society, according to the perspectives of a group of young adults from São Tomé and Príncipe, who are studying at a professional training center in Portugal. Based on this guiding question, the following specific research objectives were defined: Identify the social roles that young people attribute to women and men; Understand the reasons for authoritarian behavior on the part of young men towards their female colleagues; Understand the subservience of these young women, in the face of the authoritarian behavior of their colleagues; Understand which issues, from a cultural, social and/or other point of view, contribute to such behaviors and perceptions (and to what extent); Know what young people’s expectations are for the future. The investigation allowed us to conclude that gender representations are still very rooted, with women continuing to be very submissive, essentially restricting themselves to the private sphere, while men dominate the public space. Although most young people consider that the roles of women and men in society should be equal, at the same time, they are also aware of the weight of cultural traditions in their country, even considering them obstacles to gender equality. Therefore, despite progress being made in this direction, there is still a long way to go!
