A decisão de avançar para a presente dissertação prendeu-se com três motivos principais: a relevância que a imigração tem em Portugal; o contacto pessoal que temos com imigrantes brasileiros/as; e a motivação resultante dos conteúdos apreendidos no Mestrado em Relações Interculturais da Universidade Aberta. Pretende-se avaliar se existe preconceito e discriminação dos e das jovens estudantes universitários/as portugueses/as em relação às mulheres brasileiras, identificando as características que podem ter influência nessa avaliação. Desenvolveu-se um estudo piloto recorrendo, no que concerne à pesquisa, a uma metodologia quantitativa. Como instrumento de pesquisa utilizou-se um inquérito on-line com perguntas fechadas, que foi respondido por 143 alunos/as da Universidade da Beira Interior, instituição de ensino selecionada. Com os resultados alcançados verificou-se que existe preconceito dos e das jovens estudantes universitários/as que responderam ao inquérito em relação às mulheres brasileiras. Apesar de ser um estudo piloto, consideramos que há indícios de sentimentos de discriminação que podem abranger os/as estudantes universitários/as portugueses.Favourable or unfavourable attitudes towards individuals based on belonging to a particular group is defined by Neto (1998) as prejudice, of which discrimination is its behavioural manifestation. The decision to undertake this dissertation was based on three main reasons: the importance of immigration in Portugal; the personal contact with Brazilian immigrants; and the motivation resulting from the content learnt in the Master's Degree Intercultural Relations at “Universidade Aberta”. Our aim is to assess whether there is prejudice and discrimination against Brazilian women among young Portuguese university students; to identify which characteristics may have an influence on this assessment. We carried out a pilot study using a quantitative methodology. As a research tool, we used an online survey with closed questions, which was answered by 143 students from the University of Beira Interior, the selected educational institution. The results showed that young university students who answered the survey have prejudices against Brazilian women.
