O aumento dessas demandas deve-se ao fato de o mundo virtual ser composto por recursos digitais, os quais possibilitam o compartilhamento de informações e o aumento da cooperação e da comunicação entre os indivíduos (LÉVY, 2000). Levando-se em consideração que tanto em ambientes presenciais quanto em ambientes virtuais de aprendizagem pretende-se formar indivíduos críticos e corresponsáveis por sua própria aprendizagem, as práticas pedagógicas utilizadas devem ser repensadas para se adequarem ao novo contexto que surge na sociedade contemporânea. Desta forma, torna-se necessária uma reflexão sobre as práticas pedagógicas adotadas no ensino de línguas para que as instituições de ensino possam dar conta das novas demandas e formar um aprendiz que seja capaz de transformar conhecimentos, deixando de ser acrítico. Pesquisas recentes (HAGUENAUER et al, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 e 2008) mostram que a utilização de plataformas educativas requer uma mudança de comportamento não só dos aprendentes, mas principalmente dos professores, que serão condutores do processo de mudança. Portanto, é muito importante que a implantação e a utilização de plataformas educativas no ensino de PLNM sejam monitoradas e avaliadas em busca de melhorias constantes. Within the context of a fast developing society, the use of e-learning platforms in the language teaching becomes increasingly important, which translates into the commitment of an increasing number of educational institutions that adopt such virtual learning environments with exponentially increasing demands in their training programmes. The increasing demands are because of a virtual world based on digital resources, which facilitates sharing of information and increased cooperation and communication between individuals (LÉVY, 2000). Taking into consideration that both in face-to-face classroom environments as well as in virtual learning environments we intend to form individual learners responsible for their learning progress, pedagogical methods must be reevaluated to suit this new context which emerges in the digital society. Hence, a reflection and further development of the pedagogical methods are required that enable the educational institutions to handle the demands of a new digital work and accompany learners in transforming knowledge – without being uncritical of their learning methods. Recent research (HAGUENAUER et al. 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008) shows the use of e-learning platforms requires a change in the behavior not only of students but also and especially of the teachers, which will be the drivers of the change process. Therefore, it is very important that the deployment and use of virtual educational platforms in teaching Portuguese as a foreign language are monitored and evaluated in search of constant improvements.
