Por outro lado, ambas foram publicadas numa época crucial em termos de evolução da carreira literária do escritor. Por isso, entendemos ser pertinente estabelecer uma relação metafórica entre as viagens que fazem os protagonistas destas obras e o percurso literário do escritor, sublinhando a evolução nas suas conceções estéticas e nas suas convicções ideológicas. Having realised that the journey is a reoccurring element both in the life as well as in the works of the great writer Eça de Queirós, we decided to choose two of his works, O Mandarim and A Relíquia, where a journey is precisely the central subject and structuring role of the narratives. On the other hand, both of the works where published during a crucial time in the writer’s literary career progression.
