[Lisboa] : [s.n.], 2012. 200 p. http://hdl.handle.net/10400.2/2341 Dissertação de Mestrado em Cidadania Ambiental e Participação apresentada à Universidade Aberta A Assembleia-Geral das Nações Unidas proclamou 2008 como Ano Internacional do Planeta Terra (AIPT), com o lema Ciências da Terra para a Sociedade, cujas celebrações decorreram durante 2007-2009. No sentido de dinamizar os objectivos do AIPT, a Comissão Nacional da UNESCO constituiu o Comité Português para o AIPT (CPAIPT), em 2007, ao qual se agregaram mais de 200 entidades, associadas à promoção de mais de 500 iniciativas, a nível nacional. O trabalho agora apresentado pretende descrever o modo como o AIPT foi implementado junto da sociedade portuguesa e identificar os impactos e mudanças obtidos. A grande dificuldade na sua realização consistiu na demonstração da consecução dos objectivos traçados e na quantificação e avaliação dos resultados alcançados. Assim, a recolha de dados baseouse em actividades específicas e num estudo de caso. Deste modo, foi possível capturar o maior número de detalhes sobre as mudanças e impactos alcançados. A metodologia desenvolvida – abordagem qualitativa e descritiva – foi aquela que melhor se adaptou à problemática levantada, pois permitiu descrever detalhadamente a concepção, a execução e os processos utilizados pelo CPAIPT na dinamização do AIPT. Assim, tendo presente a dimensão multidisciplinar das actividades desse Comité e dos seus impactos junto da sociedade, podemos agora afirmar que se estabeleceram verdadeiras sinergias reprodutivas com os mais variados sectores e entidades, que permitiram dar continuidade aos objectivos do AIPT, para lá do triénio, e cujo legado reforçou o papel das Geociências em prol da disseminação de boas práticas ambientais, de uma cidadania mais activa e socialmente mais responsável. The United Nations General Assembly declared 2008 the International Year of Planet Earth (IYPE). Under the motto Earth Sciences for Society, commemorations took place in 2007-2009. In order to reach the goals of the IYPE, the Portuguese National Commission for UNESCO created the Portuguese Committee for the IYPE (PCIYPE) in 2007 that brought together over 200 entities and led over 500 initiatives all around the country. This dissertation aims to describe how the IYPE was implemented in the Portuguese society and to identify its impacts and the changes it generated. The biggest challenge of this project was the demonstration of the fulfilment of the goals that were defined at the outset, and the quantification and evaluation of the results. Data gathering was conducted through specific activities and a case study. This allowed the collection of the largest number of details on changes and impacts. The use of a quantitative and qualitative methodology was adapted to the research problem and enabled the analysis of the conception, the implementation and the processes employed by the PCIYPE in promotion of the IYPE. In face of the multidisciplinary nature of the activities of the Committee and its impacts on society, we can conclude that it generated truly reproductive synergies with diverse sectors and entities that gave continuity to the goals of the IYPE beyond the three years that it formally involved.
