<dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract" lang="eng">Monte Carlo Simulations (SMC) are fundamental tools in statistical inference, although their random and unstructured nature often requires a high computational cost to ensure convergence.
This dissertation explores the integration of Design of Experiments (DOE), specifically Greco-Latin Squares (QGL), Latin Hyper-Cube (HL) and Response Surface Methodology
(RSM) designs, as a means to optimize the performance evaluation of estimators for the shape parameter ξ of the Generalized Pareto Distribution (GPD). The Bayesian, Maximum Likelihood (MLE), Pickands, Method of Moments (MOM), and Probability Weighted Moments (PWM) estimators were analyzed. The results demonstrate that the structured approach allowed not only for the identification of the Bayesian estimator as the most precise and the MLE as the most robust in the considered intervals, but also for the systematic quantification of the impact of factors such as sample size and distribution parameters on error variability. It is concluded that the integration of DOE with Monte Carlo Simulations can contribute to sampling efficiency and result interpretability and this way complement purely random simulation, especially in contexts of high computational complexity.</dim:field>
