[S.l.]: [s.n.], 2022. 125 p. http://hdl.handle.net/10400.2/12722 urn:tid:203142330 203142330 A presente dissertação insere-se no tema da integração europeia no contexto das regiões ultraperiféricas, com o estudo de caso a ser aplicado de forma genérica ao impacto no desenvolvimento socioeconómico na RAA e com o foco a centrar-se particularmente na Ilha do Pico. De modo analisarmos o impacto da integração europeia na Ilha do Pico, existiu a necessidade de a estudar mediante duas variáveis, a económica e a sociocultural, e em dois períodos diferentes: o pós-integração e o pré integração que inclui o período da constituição da Autonomia Açoriana e do 25 de abril de 1974. Até ao 25 abril de 1974, cerca 12 anos antes da adesão de Portugal à CEE, a Ilha do Pico vivia de forma rudimentar e com discrepâncias enormes de acessibilidades e de infraestruturas sociais quando comparada com as Ilhas denominadas de “Capitais Distrito” (Faial, São Miguel e Terceira). O aumento dos parques escolares, as acessibilidades aéreas, as melhorias nas acessibilidades terrestres, o crescimento do investimento privado, as criações de emprego em substituição da agricultura de subsistência, entre tantas outras condições, surgiram apenas após o sucesso do 25 de abril de 1974. Com a adesão à CEE, alguns dos investimentos que até então eram impossíveis de se concretizar, tornaram-se possíveis. No segundo quadrante, é também importante estudar o impacto sociodemográfico na Ilha do Pico, e quais os efeitos sentidos junto dos vários setores de atividade. A criação de novos empregos, o acesso aos fundos comunitários e o incremento do setor do turismo tiveram de ser estudados para compreender se a Integração Europeia foi suficiente para implementar uma melhoria na qualidade de vida dos habitantes e para a sustentabilidade sociodemográfica da ilha do Pico. O paradigma da integração europeia e o impacto socioeconómico nas regiões ultraperiféricas tem sido, desde a sua constituição, um processo “conflituoso” e gerador de múltiplas opiniões, sendo por isso mesmo bastante útil a utilização de dados estatísticos e de índices de desenvolvimento humano e económico, para que de forma consolidada, se possa obter conclusões cientificas à problemática estudada, esperando-se assim, poder dar um contributo para a compreensão da integração europeia no contexto das realidades das Regiões Ultraperiféricas, mas mais precisamente, dos Açores e da Ilha do Pico. This dissertation is part of the theme of European integration in the context of the outermost regions, with the case study being applied generically to the impact on socioeconomic development in the Autonomous Region of the Azores and focusing particularly on Pico Island. To analyze the impact of European integration on Pico Island, there was a need to study it through two variables: the economic and the sociocultural, and in two different periods: the post-integration and the pre-integration that includes the period of the constitution of the Azorean Autonomy and April 25, 1974. Until April 25, 1974, about 12 years before Portugal joined the EEC, Pico Island lived in an undeveloped way with huge differences in accessibility and social infrastructures when compared to the islands called “District Capitals” (Faial, São Miguel, and Terceira). The increase of school parks, air accessibility, improvements in land accessibility, the growth of private investment, job creation to replace subsistence agriculture, among other conditions, were only possible after the revolution of April 25, 1974. With the adhesion to the EEC, some of the investments that were impossible to materialize until then, started to be exponentiated. In the second part, it is also important to study the socio-demographic impact on Pico Island, and the effects citizens have felt on the various sectors of activity. The creation of new jobs, the access to European funds and the increase in the tourism sector must be study to understand that European integration was enough to implement an improvement in the inhabitants’ quality of life and socio-demographic sustainability of the island of Pico. The paradigm of European integration and the socio-economic impact on the outermost regions has been, since its creation, a “conflictual” process and generator of multiple opinions, making the use of statistical data and human development indices very useful to study the results from the integration activity and preparing consolidated possibilities and scientific conclusions that can be obtained on the studied problem.
