A escolha deste título pretende não só homenagear pela prática da reflexão partilhada e construída os membros da comunidade surda da ilha de São Miguel, como também congregar ideias, conceitos, experiências, projetos e emoções como forma de interpretar o passado, repensar o presente e consciencializar para as emergências de um futuro global, tecnológico, inclusivo e intercultural que cunham a vida sistémica dos agentes educativos Micaelenses. Deste modo o objeto deste estudo incide na dimensão educativa, social e política da comunidade surda de São Miguel à luz da revisitação da sua história e da projeção do seu futuro, pela análise de documentos, fotografias, páginas Web ou redes sociais, observação participada e, narrativas dialogadas dos seus membros obtidas por entrevistas semiestruturadas. Assim, ao longo desta investigação tornou-se preponderante saber o que pensam os surdos sobre a influência das escolas no desenvolvimento da Língua Gestual, na proclamação dos poderes e direitos individuais, na valorização da multidimensionalidade cultural e, no ensino e aprendizagem das literacias. Foi pertinente, também identificar quais as mudanças que anseiam no plano político e social como forma de melhorar as condições de vida da pessoa surda. Assim como também foi relevante conhecer as manifestações culturais e críticas que levam ao emponderamento e à emancipação da comunidade surda micaelense.
