Abstract(s)
Abstract - The Portuguese emigration is a widely studied phenomenon, tracing the Portuguese emigrant’s profile, the destination countries, the departure reasons and the emigrant’s daily life experience in its host country. Besides summarizing these aspects, this study mentions the existence of a Portuguese entrepreneurial emigrant community, in its host country characterized by entrepreneurship, that has no feedback in Portugal, and who endures drawbacks when it decides to follow the same entrepreneurial spirit in its origin country. The central aim of this study is to analyze the Portuguese’s Diaspora Entrepreneurship, based on ethnic business, mentioning the motives and the existent incentives in the host countries and, on the other hand, to inquire the possible causes of its entrepreneurial success/failure in Portugal. The Study was based on the analysis of questionnaire answers filled in by the Portuguese’s Diaspora Entrepreneurs. The results disclose that the entrepreneurial failures of these entrepreneurs are related with the inexistence, in Portugal, of reliability and solidarity links, and of modern and organized desburoucratic institutions, having in mind the entrepreneurial specificities of the Portuguese’s Diaspora Entrepreneurs. On the other hand, these entrepreneurs reached success in the host country, favoured by the governmental politics which stimulates ethnic entrepreneurship, as well as the use of available personal and ethnic resources. In Portugal, these entrepreneurs reached enterprise success on the tourism sector, through the exploitation of hotels and rural tourism
